My little soap box

on Thursday, April 09, 2009

PLEASE ignore the messed up titles on here. Im working on it.
This blog was originally intended to be my little soap box. As such I have always intended for it to go into a philosophical/ theological/ and everything else in between type of direction. However, my school load has been heavy. However, I have almost completed all of the homework for the rest of the semester. Since I am graduating ( from the Master's College) in approx. 3 weeks I have plenty of time now to post about stuff that really interests me. In order to launch this new direction here's a video for you. Watch the whole thing and tell me what YOU think. Whatever it is I'd love to hear it. This blogger takes no offense to any comments or statements!

Yes, I do think it's cheesy

on Saturday, March 28, 2009

Here is a really cool video I came across on youtube. BEFORE YOU WATCH it...yes, I do think it's cheesy and the guy needs to get a pair of shoes and the music is lame-o. However, I thought it was a great concept. Just watch the video for the first minute and you already see him doing muscle ups, knees to elbows, throws, climbs, pulls, and everything else we do in Crossfit- even Parkour! He's like the ultimate Crossfitter but with a great tan! Is he gonna die from doing the stuff he does? Quite probably, and soon, but I'd still like to do some of that stuff. Pair this concept with Crossfit and you've got the ultimate human. BTW- make sure to watch it in HD! Its even better.

While the two man wrestling scene was a little slow and thus uncomfortable for me I thought about how we could implement this into our training...hmmm. Any ideas?

No excuses, right?

I did "Michael" ( the workout) today but ran into a LITTLE problem. No BEM( short for back extension machine- this not a legit abbreviation... just made it up) . For those of you out of the loop Michael consists of:
3 Rounds of
-Run 800 m
-50 back extensions
-50 situps
For time.

Okay, for your info I always rock this WOD( okay in my mind at least-as always) cause I can do back extensions pretty fast as well as sit ups. The hiccup of having no BEM turned out to be a lot tougher than predicted. I never realized how much better a real BEM is due to the way it holds your feet nice and snug.

No Excuses, right? Got this idea( sorta) from THIS VIDEO...watch the whole thing!

The upside: easy to set up and if you put enough plates like I did you will have plenty of room to extend all the way down getting that full extension in without cheating. Also, if you want to work your hammies a lot better than just a regular BEM USE THIS, SERIOUSLY. This makes you use JUST your hammies and since theres no foot holder your legs kind of raise making it somewhat of an isolation. Isolation isnt what we usually go for. However, if you are working on power/olympic lifting this is the REAL DEAL. Strong hammies that pop you out of a squat is of the utmost importance.
The downside: see that little strap...doesn't hold as well as a regualr BEM. You kind of have to hold on real tight rather than focus on just the up and down of a BEM making it hard to do it for time.
Finished in 25:02- crappy time? Yes. But Tony the Tiger thinks I'm great.

No I Dont Keep Ice Cream in the Fridge

on Saturday, March 14, 2009

I just started a new zone this week- ELEVEN blocks. What is that...like... 852.5 calories !?!?!?!!?!? CRAZY! I never thought in a million years I would be doing a calorie restricted diet this low. I usually zone at 13 blocks. Its a far stretch from what I used to do- Precision Nutrition( which is great too by the way- it just doesn't cater to my specific goals anymore) for which I would consume 2,500-3,000 calories PER DAY.
I decided to go to eleven this week because twelve and thirteen blocks were too much food for me. I know, I could replace some carbs with Higher GI stuff but I cant bring myself to do it. Turns out eleven blocks is perfect for me and I love it. Here is my diet thus far( the numbers next to the meals indicate the blocks)

3- Eggs, oatmeal, peanut butter( I'm not being specific because I am lazy)

3- Chicken or Scoop of vanilla protein, one banana( can you believe one banana is three blocks of carbs?)

1- String Cheese, 1 very small apple, avocado or peanuts

3- chicken, green beans, asparagus, olive oil

1- String Cheese, 1 very small apple, avocado or peanuts

There it is! And it is gooood. That's what I eat every day. Of course, I deviate. We ran out of food a few days ago so for my carbsI had four blocks of Ice Cream( no, I dont keep ice cream in the fridge- it was someone else's). I used to like Ice Cream before this unpleasant incident- not anymore. 1 block= 1/2 cup. You get the picture.

What I looked like...minus the tidy whiteeees

FYI: in case you havnt noticed I am not trying to be all profound and pithy with the titles of my posts. They are simply excerpts from the post itself. I do this because 1) I hate thinking of clever things to say and 2) I hate when people think of clever titles for their posts- its unnatractive.
